The Texas Medical Association is proud to offer five scholarship programs for qualified Texas medical students.
Texas Medical Association Minority Scholarship (Available Fall 2013)
For minorities underrepresented in Texas medical schools and the state’s physician workforce
- Mexican Americans, African Americans, or Native American
- Students already attending medical school are not eligible
- Must be an incoming freshman at the school awarding the loan
- Must complete an application
- Provide a letter of acceptance
- Write an essay, not to exceed 750 words, explaining how as a physician you would “improve the health of all Texans”
- Award is rotated to Texas medical schools according to an established cycle
- Fundraising efforts handled by TMA Foundation
- Annual awards have ranged from one to eight scholarships of $5,000 each
- The scholarship presentation takes place at TMA's TexMed Conference. Visit the Calendar for dates.

Texas Medical Association Fifty Year Club Scholarship (Available Fall 2013)
- Total annual award of $1,500 if the funds are available
- Available to all accredited Texas medical schools with rotation schedule according to an established cycle
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be in the second, third, or fourth year of medical school study
- Displays outstanding academic progress in medical school
- The medical school determines recipients and notifies TMA
- Awardees must submit a letter to TMA acknowledging receipt of this award and state how the scholarship will benefit the student
- Funding available through the Fifty Year Club dues
- Awards are to be issued in increments of no less than $500 per medical student

Harris County Medical Society Alliance Scholarship (Available Fall 2013)
- Available to Baylor College of Medicine and UT Houston Health Science Center
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Attend an accredited medical school in Harris County or reside in Harris County for one year or more prior to attending an accredited medical school out of Harris County
- Be in the third or fourth year of medical school
- Must be progressing satisfactorily in medical school
- The medical school determines recipients and notifies TMA
- Funding available through the Harris County Medical Society Alliance
- Awards are to be issued in increments of no less than $500 per medical student

Louise Barekman Memorial Scholarship (Open to all nine Texas medical schools.)
- Must be a member of a Protestant church and have record of regular attendance from said church
- Exhibit genuine financial need
- Be in good standing in medical school
- Attending first, second, or third year of study in medical school
- Be a resident of Texas
- Funding available through a trust established by private sources

Michael O'Malley, MD Memorial Scholarship
- TMA’s Young Physician Section (YPS) offers scholarships to a rural high school senior pursuing a degree in the field of medicine.
- $1,000 scholarship awarded annually to help students achieve their goal of becoming a physician.
